As schools across Karnataka reopened on Monday after the summer break, students in Bengaluru and other parts of the state were seen following COVID-19 safety protocols amid a recent surge in cases.
Many students, teachers, and non-teaching staff were spotted wearing masks and maintaining physical distance in classrooms and common areas. Even parents who accompanied their children on the first day were seen adhering to safety guidelines by wearing masks.
In several Bengaluru schools, students lined up at the school gates while maintaining proper distance. Their body temperatures were checked at the entrance as part of the standard COVID-19 precautions.
Government Issues Fresh Guidelines for Schools
In response to the rising number of COVID-19 cases, the Karnataka government issued a circular on Friday urging parents not to send children to school if they show symptoms like fever, cough, or cold. The circular was issued by the Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare following a COVID-19 review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on May 26.
Key instructions from the circular include:
- Children should be sent to school only after full recovery from any illness.
- If a child is found to have symptoms at school, they must be sent home immediately after notifying the parents.
- Teachers and non-teaching staff showing symptoms must also follow necessary precautions and stay home if needed.
- Schools must ensure COVID-19 appropriate behaviors (CAB) such as regular hand washing, mask-wearing, and cough etiquette.
